help with my valedictory speech? i need it for tomorrow, im in grade 8, any suggestions on improvments?

Dear Students, Faculty and Invited Guests of the Graduating Class of 2011, thank you for this opportunity to speak to you as a whole. These years together have passed by much too quickly, it’s almost impossible to believe that we’ll be in high school the next time we step into a classroom.
Everyone expects the traditional heavy-duty words that sum up our time in Treeline, but I won’t bore you that… let me break tradition and just say that for tonight, it doesn’t matter whether you accepted everyone with open arms or rejected them with a sarcastic brush-off; for tonight, we are here to graduate as a united whole.
I would like to begin with a quote from a famous writer and poet, Dr. Seuss. He said, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.” Personally, I think that Dr. Seuss hit the nail on the head when he wrote this quote. For the past 14 years, we have had parents, relatives and teachers guiding us, taking us by the hand and showing us the correct way to go. These early years have been the stepping stone and the foundation in which we will start a higher education and a brighter path. Now it is up to us to catch on to life’s issues, lessons and accomplishments. We each will choose a path and whenever it begins, things will change. We have made bonds between friends and memories that we will never forget.
As we look back at our years at Treeline we have matured and grown, and it is easy to see how Treeline has played a part and shaped who we are today. When we first came into Treeline, we were timid and skeptical kindergarteners or primary students, a bit smaller than we are today, having no idea what to expect from this elementary school. We were intimidated by the size of the school, and for some of us- the size of the students. After grade 3 we hoped we would never have to do an EQAO or test again. But it was not to be! Grade 4 surprised us with CCAT, after this test, we sailed into grade 5 and 6. We were given new privileges as well as new responsibilities. For me, grade 5 meant doing my own laundry and by grade 6, I could do the dishes-even the porcelain ones! This led to many broken dishes and let’s just say that the plates weren’t exactly clean. As we moved on to grade 7, it was a year of experiments: new haircuts, new clothe styles and new friends. When we got to grade 8, our first thought was: this is it, our last year! We faced finding a suitable high school, keeping our grades up and strengthening the bonds of friendship we had made over the years, and of course, ruling the school! Our thought now: we finally did it! We dealt with sport team wins and losses, friendship break-ups and new friends, aced tests or failed ones. We got through grade 8, and finally, here we are all together. For one last time.

rob answers:

Watch your beginning. You said you wouldn’t bore anyone with a bunch of heavy words, but you follow that with some boring words and a quote. Cut that line out. And I wouldn’t put something in there that makes your class look bad like, “or rejected them with a sarcastic brush-off” (these are the heavy words that I’m taking about). Talk about the diversity in your class instead about how certain parts of it don’t get along with other parts. Focus solely on the good. Furthermore, you should use easier, lighter language instead of all of the big words you’ve mixed in there. You are the valedictorian, and I know you intelligent, but you have to remember you speaking to an auditorium of bored tweens and their families who don’t think graduating middle school is a big deal (it isn’t, in the long run). Keep the words light and fluffy.
Skip over the testing stuff about 3rd and 4th grade. I’m a high school freshman, and I barley remember things like that and they didn’t effect my life in the least, meaning those words ar just flat out pointless. Also, remember to focus on the bright future ahead, all of the paths you will take, stupid mistakes you’ll make, lessons you’ll learn, and the overall experience of high school before. The point of this speech is to close up the middle school chapter in your grade’s lives and open up the book of high school.
Lastly, don’t end your speech with “for one last time”. There is absolutely no power behind those words and it makes the speech seem grim. You could say something about “Here we are one last time as 8th graders, next we’ll be freshmen”, Just prettier. Also, the majority of your 8th grade class is probably going into the same high school, so this isn’t goodbye forever.
Overall, it is a pretty good speech, but what how dramatic you are. The last thing anyone wants to listen to is an over dramatic valedictorian up on their perch being the queen of the universe. Hopefully I’ve helped you and you’ll have a very successful (mini) graduation speech.

I got one store for you

Its called Forever 21

Best store ever! Relatively cheap clothing and it mends to all style from super girly to tomboyish cute. Its super diverse.
Forever 21 carries the latest trends/styles and by walking into the store you pretty much get an idea of whats in for the season plus you get some ideas for super cute outfits using things already in your closet.

My tips:
1. If you cant walk in heels then dont wear them till you know how to. Otherwise you’ll probably end up eating **** in front ouf your peers or a girl wobbling around who doesn’t know how to walk in heels is not cute nor sexy. SO BEWARE OF HEELS @ SCHOOL.

2. Pick things that make you feel comfortable BUT CONFIDENT IN! If you feel good in something and own it chances are people will take notice I mean look @ those girls on the runway!

Back to School Outfit for 2011!?

We are starting school in aobut 3-4 weeks and I need a new outfit for the first day back. I Would like it to be similar in style to this:

http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=21853091

I also like cute off the shoulder tops. The ones that go off down the shoulder on one side a little. I looke best in dark blue or dark purlpe! Try not to use to many neon, light colors! If it is a skirt/dress it needs to be slightly above the knees but not too short! Oh, and if I wear a tank top or dress with no sleeves then I would need a sweater to go over it (dress code).

I would prefer skirts or jeans to dresses because I just bought some! My budget is $40-$50!

If you have money left after the bottoms and tops, then add accessories, shoes, or makeup! Please use polyvore if you can, but if not then that’s okay!

Outfit Idea: (if you can find it you would be my lifesaver!)

That outfit is adorable and i love the colors. It is very appropriate for the first day of school. Forever 21 has tons of skirts like that and they are very affordable. Also, Payless has a wide variety of flats and they arent very expensive. You can find a tank top to match that very easily.

How to clean white Nike Air Max 2011?

I just bought the new Nike Air Max in all white and I need to clean off some mud!

The style has a couple of layers of mesh and the one underneath isn’t getting clean. I used a Mr Clean Magic Eraser, Dawn with Oxi Clean, straight Oxi Clean, and finally Bleach. NOTHING got the lower layer white again!!!!!! (I used a tooth brush to scrub it with these products) The coloring is better, the dark brown is gone, but it has a slightly light yellow/brown tinge to it still!

Among these two singers, who do you think is more talented, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez or Charice?

Isn’t it terrible if a mother fakes a daughter’s death just to get a 2 and a half week vacation abroad?

http://www.funtuna.com/2012/01/nyc-school-worker-faked-daughters-death.html

I know this happened in 2010. The woman was obviously from Costa Rica and she worked as a parent co-ordinator at a New York school…in order to get 2 and a half weeks holiday in Costa Rica she made one of her daughters phone the school and say her sister in Costa Rica was very sick..then she made another daughter phone the school to say the (sister/daugher of the mother) had died and faked a death certificate all for the sake of 2.5 weeks vacation in Costa Rica…and now she lost her job.

Why does someone do that and people who are employed at schools I am sure get more holiday than in some other positions. What must be going on in someone’s mind to come up with such a dramatic lie that is really a minor crime and only to gain a little holiday..well, now she is unemployed and at age 58 what will her chances be to find a new job, with a bad record of having been to court for minor misdemeanor and for having been given the sack…for having lied over something really dramatic…?

Now she has all the time to go on vacation but probably not the money…I don’t understand why people do that.
Seven more years and she would have been able to retire and get a proper pension and she jeopardized all of this for a holiday and using fraud to get it and creating drama?
Did she work for some kind of dictatorship school where no holidays were allowed to staff or was she just really out of her mind..? I am sure in New York everybody is entitled to at least 2 weeks holiday…and someone working at a school probably gets more, because there are all the school holidays and office staff won’t be working then either.
What do you think of something like this?
At least she will always be remembered for having done something outrageous.

I have another question which has a slight connection with this…but only slightly.
My husband says ”celebrities are boring and nobody cares about their lives or wants to know what they did and how they became famous…but he told me a serial killer such as of the calibre as Charles Manson who committed the terrible crimes in the summer of 1969 where amongst many victims Actress Sharon Tate (8 months pregnant at the time) and her friends were all stabbed in the most brutal way and the killing spree continued one day later when more people were butchered but California had abolished the death penalty in 1969 so the Manson gang were never executed but got life imprisonment, Charles Manson is almost 78 years old now..he has been in St Quentin Prison for those murders along with his gang members who under his instructions carried out the foul deeds and my husband said ” Serial killers like that are different, one wants to watch them on TV because their story is interesting..” that makes little sense to me… why is a vicious serial killer who butchered so many young and innocent people to death and and actress and 8 month pregnant woman, and her friends in ther Beverly Hills home and such a guy gets more audience for being notorious than a film star who made an honest career and whose rise to fame might have been a long struggle to the top..but in his mind actors are just a waste of space but a serial killer at least is interesting to see on TV and to watch…At least actors give us entertainment and fun or drama…a serial killer causes a lot of devastation and grief and Charles Manson is one of the serial killers who has no regrets and no remorse..why would my husband deem it more interesting to get to know his story? The story of a demented man and a guy how really after over 40 years still has no regrets and said instead maybe he should have killed 500. ?

Thanks

Probably if you join an agency, you wont get to pick what you model for, you go along unless its something your uncomfortable with obviouly, i would say maybe just a bit too short, but its fine anything under 5’6 is a dodgy, normally its 5’75 ish+ now maybe you could also do iht putting a bit more weigh on because that is thin but if that is you natural build then thats fine, you really dont need to diet at al if thats your build just eat properly, i think you can do it

-my ultimate goal for jeans is a pair of seven jeans, but as of now, i buy all my jeans at american eagle, hollister, and levi’s.
My list of all the top teenage trends.
-lots of light pinks, nude colors and light pinks are totally cute and easy to dress up or down
-lace is really big, it may not be your style because i know i feel like a table cloth or some terribly old curtains when i wear the wrong kind, but when done right lace looks super fab, especially with pearls
-chunky bracelets, these are really big, bold, statement pieces that go great with everything
-horizontal stripes, i used to hate these because it made me feel bigger but now horizontal stripes are all the rage!
-crop tops, these are shorter in the front and longer in the back, they’re super beachy and i absolutely adore them
-floral print, some can be oober fugly but when you look hard enough you can find some super gorgeous kinds
-tribal print, this is at forever 21 and i think it’s going to be a really big trend this year
-bandage skirts, these are the really tight skirts and i totes love them, they look really good with everything-especially crop tops
-giant feather earrings, i’m in love with these and i nnneeeeeeeeedd them, i heard they’re at wetseal for only $9!
-rompers, i live at the beach so these are a MUST for me
-toms, these are really cool, comfy shoes that come in millions of styles
-leather &jean jackets, i have a lot of cardigans and i feel like it’s time to change it up a little bit, lots of people wear these and i think they really work for covering straps that don’t work for school (strapless dresses, tanks, etc.)
-patterned shorts, floral, tribal, animal, whatever print but i feel that changing the focus point of your outfits is very important
-and this is my most important item- cute white shirts. Im not talking about v-necks, i mean cute unique white shirts that can be used for pairing with patterned shorts and skirts.

Good luck with that. Profiling shoe consumers won’t be easy. Men buy shoes when their old ones wear out, women buy them just because they are there and they have a credit card that still functions.

I have never met a woman who doesn’t own far more shoes than she needs, nor have I met one who can explain why. It isn’t like many of a woman’s other fashion purchases, bought with the intention of making her look more attractive to the opposite sex, most guys ‘never’ look at a woman’s shoes – beyond noting that they are red, black etc.

It must be to impress other women – it is the only realistic answer.

Do girls like expensive shoes on a fella?

I don’t mean trendy sneakers which I despise, but smart, dressy shoes.
They say that women can tell a lot about a guy by the shoes he wears. Personally I disagree. I tend to go for shoes between $40 and $70US. If you prefer shoes that are more expensive, than that should put you in good terms with the gold diggers LOL. But I think you can get away with a little cheaper than $100AU. And a lot of expensive shoes are mimicked by cheaper brands. So you can find some nice shoes at a lower price, depending on where you go. Here is a list of types of shoes that I think every guy should have. A nice pair of dress shoes. A pair of winter/fall or hiking boots. A pair of athletic sneakers. A pair of sandals. A nice pair of casual shoes. And a pair of junk shoes, and/or boots for working purposes. Being 35 doesn’t mean that you have to give up wearing sneakers. If you go to the gym, or play certain sports, you’re not going to want to wear expensive oxfords. You would look rather silly. And it wouldn’t matter how much you spent on the shoes.

For the most part, unless they’re worn or outdated, they should be fine. Avoid trendy styles and MOST IMPORTANTLY, avoid loafers with tassels (Ewww, old man shoes – who wears those?)! Buy brown and black in a simple style and there’s no reason you should have to replace them unless they’re destroyed. Even then, you can have them re-soled if they’re a really comfortable pair that you’d hate to give up. Chances are the girl at work has a closet full of shoes and can’t imagine why you’re so disinterested.

Ok, since urban outfitters doesn’t put their clothing online until its been in the stores for like 5 weeks, I’ll post one that kinda has the same shape. However, mine is sold black, and has ruffles all around the neckline.

Ok, I know that was kinda a lot, but i really need to know!! Haha. It’s an interview at Nordstrom for a position on their BP Fashion Board, which is kinda like an internship thing. Haha. So idk if they want me to show more of my level of profesionalism or my sense of styleee… Haha. Thanks!!

I would wear the first one. I don’t think either of the dresses are good for an interview. And i have been told that you shouldn’t wear sandals to an interview! Apparently its one of those weird things where it could possibly give the interviewer a reason to not like you. Weird. I think the whole styling of the first outfit looks really cute. Just make sure your not overdoing it with the pearls. And also that the gray shirt doesn’t look weird with the brown boots. (idk what color brown they are but i’m sure you know what your doing!!) good luck!!

If you ladies are curious to what i wear, i dont ever wear shorts and always wear jeans, i have three pairs of shoes plain white air forces black and white nike legends and brown and black vans. i have many pairs of blue jeans all of which are brands such as ecko, south pole, levi, and a pair of khakis and black jeans. i own a pair of dress shoes, dress shirts, and a tie for those occasions. i wear diamond earrings everyday and have a silver watch and chain. When i dont dress up, i usually wear a plain colored polo or short sleeve button up shirt and a fitted cap. I do wear brand clothes but not any of the expensive stuff (lacoste, akademic) but do wear ecko, south pole, rocawear and so on. what do you think ladies?

How much money would Mr. Brown have to put on the 32nd square?

A traveling salesman (selling shoes) stops at a farm in the Midwest. Before he could knock on the door, he noticed an old truck on fire. He rushed over and pulled a young lady out of the flaming truck. Farmer Brown came out and gratefully thanked the traveling salesman for saving his daughter’s life. Mr. Brown insisted on giving the man an award for his heroism.

So, the salesman said, “If you insist, I do not want much. Get your checkerboard and place one penny on the first square. Then place two pennies on the next square. Then place four pennies on the third square. Continue this until all 64 squares are covered with pennies.” As he’d been saving pennies for over 25 years, Mr. Brown did not consider this much of an award, but soon realized he made a miscalculation on the amount of money involved.

We probably not going to the beach but meet on the pier and then walk around, eat food, maybe watch a movie? Oh yeah and I was deciding on wearing my sunglasses or not..

White shirt and red tie combo would work fine- black shoes for sure – pink shirt would contrast nicely with the navy suit – if you want to be different try a bow tie – something like a red and navy stripe would work with a white or pink shirt. Check Brooks Brothers they have some nice regimental stripes. Nice suit choice by the way – like the vest option – also for added flair – add a french cuff shirt and cuff links.

Of the three colors you were thinking, I’d say navy is the best, but I’d still suggest lighter colors. When it comes to the rest of the outfit, I’d suggest, honestly, white shoes, bag, and hat, but pink shoes and bag, if you can find them. If you end up going with the darker top, go with matching shoes and accessories, or stick with pink. Maybe have some blue detail work on the hat.

Come to think of it, last year, my girlfriend wore a pink suit to the Kentucky Derby, with a white blouse. She put it together with white shoes and bag, and a white hat with pink decorations.

New Style of Shoes to Wear?

Well, a little while ago two of my friends started wearing converse ‘chuck taylor’s’ and now everyone is wearing them. They’re really annoyed and so am I. I was going to buy a red pair, but then I decided against it becuase I don’t want to be like everyone else. I need a new style of shoes to wear! something casual and comfortable. I already have sperry’s, nike’s, ballet flats, and uggs. My school doesn’t allow you to wear flip-flops, and I am definetly not going to wear high heels. So, any ideas about shoe styles?

thanks

Dr. Martens, by a long shot – they also look good. The one drawback I’ve found is that I’ve never had a pair last more than three months, which is a pity because they’re not cheap. However, many people have a pair that they’ve worn daily for years, so it seems I must have very destructive feet.
